Re: Is this an Ellerman Bomb?

Mark and Montana, the time is actually UT +2. I should correct this to UT. I wish I had slightly better resolution, but at this stage its all my 71mm scope can do (but very pleased, I think the little guy is a real worker). The images are all slightly off band as I was playing with the dial on the Q...

Re: 1.25" Baader UV/IR on Quark as ERF?

Thanks Mark. This is exactly what I thought. What do you propose the risks are? The baader UV is a reflection filter. So I'm assuming that it should easily handle the smaller focus point of heat by reflecting? The other consideration being the smaller focus point back to the objective. This may be a...

1.25" Baader UV/IR on Quark as ERF?

I have a Baader D Erf which I need to install internally into my 127mm refractor somehow and sometime. But was thinking of using my 1.25 inch Baader UV/IR filter with this refractor in the meantime. I cannot see how this would not work when screwed onto the Quark nosepiece. But everyone uses 2 inch ...

AR 1546 Mosaic

Well I must admit, I am chuffed with this one. A 12 panel mosaic proved some challenges. But Ive got a nice big image full of pixels. The dynamic range also proved a challenge, especially on the rim. Nevertheless, I am done with this one. Until weather clears and on to the next. https://www.astrobin...

Quark Dial Test. On band?

I spent some time this afternoon to see if I can get the correct dial setting for my Quark. I took 6 images, but unfortunately the the last two at dial -1 and +4 had some rotation difficulty as I had to flip the scope. But I think on band is one of these 4. My guess for now is the second picture in ...

How many fps with your high speed camera?

I have the ZWO Asi 174. I tried all different settings today and the best I can get at full resolution,1920, is about 50fps for about 30 seconds before running out of most ram which after the fps drops to avg 25. When doing ROI at 1280, I can get 70fps for much longer than I care for. Probably indef...

Re: Do you also have this effect with your Quark?

Hi all, I would just like to finalise this post by saying that my issue with the Quark has been resolved. It was sent back to Daystar and they confirmed the faulty etalon. I received a new etalon in my Quark and the issue is gone. I am one happy guy now. :hamster:

WTB: Omega Bob CaK filter

If someone maybe has an Omega Bob eBay CaK filter which is from a relatively good batch, and would like to sell it, please let me know. I would like to get a second one to experiment with the effect of double stacking with mine.

Thanks

Re: How to Calculate Sun diameter inside Light Cone?

Mmm, okay that is interesting. I have never thought about it like this. But then, to bring me to the collimator lens, be it a positive or negative lens, if the f ratio needs to be the same as the main objective focal ratio (in this case f/12.5) one can never fit the "full diameter" of the sun in the...

Re: How to Calculate Sun diameter inside Light Cone?

Thank you for the reply. Only one thing that still does not make sense to me: if the light cone has a diameter of 12 mm at 850 mm behind the objective, how can the Sun's diameter here be 20.5 mm? This is then larger than the diameter of the light cone? In other words, if I were to add the Barlow or ...

Re: How to Calculate Sun diameter inside Light Cone?

Can I use this formula to calculate the width of the light cone coming from the main objective? Reason I am asking is I am considering a negative lens, added at its focal lentgh inside the light cone. With a 1000mm FL and 80mm apperture, say a 150mm FL negative lens (13mm diameter) is added 150mm in...

Re: Some advise on building a SHG?

Hi Ken

I will see how I can fit everything in the design so that I have the correct parameters. Will do a sketch in the meantime.

Why did you mention in your previous post that a slit of 10 mm is problematic?

Ken, will this grating do? It is on the bottom of the page, in the 4th column:

Specs are 30mm x 30mm, 1800 lines/mm, Blaze = 500nm

Re: Some advise on building a SHG?

Hello Ken Thank you for this info. I will head over check out some of the yahoo files. Camera is a monochrome QHY5 L ii CMOS sensor at 3.7 microns. But I may upgrade to a 5.6 micron in the next two years, so I will go for an approximate 10 micron gap. As for a second lens to focus the image onto the...
