Re: ITF replacement...how much!!!

Thanks Mark,
I understand re the Maier filter now.
I shall try that link fella, seems like the UK could do with a filter manufacturer itself ;-)

Re: ITF replacement...how much!!!

That postage is crazy Ewan, have you tried going through the UK representative? https://www.andovercorp.com/Contact/International-Representatives/#UK Cheers Mark, I shall give it a go via that link. Why specifically can the Maier 656 ITF Bandpass Filter NOT be used instead ? It's not the cost but t...

Re: ITF replacement...how much!!!

Yes they will, it's due to go back in a few months, after the UK solar 'season' but I would have sorted it my end before then.
Not a problem, a real shame there is not one UK manafactureer of these kinds of filters.

Re: ITF replacement...how much!!!

Hi any ideas how I could get round this 'issue'. I am after an ITF filter from Andover which cost $180.00..postage to the UK is $175.00, stunned to say the least. The filter is so small it could be sent in a letter from the US :-), any ideas to get round this maybe & save my solar season ? Apprecia...

Re: ITF replacement...how much!!!

Seems that way Alexandra, for it's size the postage is far too excessive

Re: I told ya so... Comets causing sunspots.

To be honest I cannot see how something as small as a comet could give rise to a sunspot, considering the size difference as well, maybe I'm wrong but it seems a little doubtful.

Re: A very special prom on Oct 10

Maybe relevant maybe not but thought I'd put it here anyway. Using a Baader D-ERF (Red glass) on my 152mm frac I find the exiting beam to be cool & not warm, Baader states that the D-ERF prevents thermal turbulence in the tube, prevents focus shift & stabilizes centre wavelength drift due to tempera...

Re: Closure of National Solar Observatory remains shrouded in secrecy

I think that is a hoax story according to Matt Penn and certainly from watching the Sun I don't think there will be any major solar flare do you :) I think it is either a security issue or something else. https://eu.alamogordonews.com/story/news/local/2018/09/07/sunspot-observatory-south-cloudcroft...

Glad to see you are using the solar film :hamster: however I can't see the tif images, can you change to JPEG?

03-08-2018 C8 SCT Convection Cell trial (sorry Granules );-)

Apart from the flats the C8 SCT IMX174 White Light combo looks promising. Unlike Ha imaging i found you do need to image the sun earlier for best results, i started today at 2pm. Seeing plays an even bigger part with convection cell capturing, well for me at least, with no large details to get focus...

Never say never Mark, better seeing is bound to come sooner or later which will improve things further. Very nice results so far.

Re: Solar finder woes

Personally I have never had the need for a solar finder, once my ERF is on I slew to roughly where the sun is & then slew slowly until I get a nice red disc from the rear showing on my hand, connect the Quark & it's good to go ;-)

Good luck with your new solar set up I am sure you will enjoy it.

Re: Solar granulation and Ha 15th July

The WL shots came out very clean Stu, I must try my Ha 7nm with the SCT now ;-) , 60 seconds is a long time for a capture though, won't you end up with a lot of frames that have movement thus reducing the amount of best 'the same detail' frames to stack Stu ? just a thought. I have found that you do...

Thank you for the kind comments members. There wasn't any clouds or that annoying very fine haze to disturb or ruin the image, truly amazing day. Thanks Eroel, not bad for one of the smaller apertures used for Hi Res, very lucky with the conditions meant I could use a longer 8Ms exp for these therefore less Gain.

15-07-2018 Daystar Quark very good seeing

15-07-2018 AR2713 returning, managed to grab this little gem the other day.
The best seeing I have had period & the small details captured attest to this I feel.

My usual 152mm rig did the deed.
Fingers crossed for more regions like this :D

Yep a great chip giving great spicules as well ;-), try all the settings with it Ronnie as you will be surprised how fast it will still go even capturing on the best 'quietest' settings. Atb
