Re: Solar spectrum help required, please
One trick that I use to calibrate mine is to "carefully" shine a laser pointer on the slit as a reference: the red ones are around 650 nm and the green ones are about 532 nm.

Youtube talk on a very special solar observatory :-)
Hi guys, I gave a conference for our federation of amateur astronomers last week on my solar observatory in a condo (!)... yes in a condo. So for those who can understand French or just want to look at the images of this presentation that describes the evolution of this concept, with its 3 telescope...

10 improvements to my solar telescope set up
Hi guys, This is a video on small improvements that I have made to my solar telescope setup. It includes simple motorized focussing, more cameras, better white light filter setup, etc. My apologies if the sound level is low; it tested fine before I started to record :-( Daniel https://youtu.be/illIr...

Hi Rainer, I use FirecCapture with an ASI1600MM on the Sun as well. I suggest that you reduce the gain to 0 and adjust the exposure for a good histogram. Increasing the gain above zero gradually ads grainy noise to the picture. Looks like sometimes you have good details like on Vimeo 284516502, but ...

Re: Sun 10 August 2018
Thank you Mark for that correction. I got the number from https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/solar-region-summary last night, thinking it was that region; I must have misunderstood the time window for data validity. One question: how do I find the correct number of an active region on the current Su...

Thank you Bob for describing the different configurations. You are so generous. I'll keep that post as a reference. The solution is now clear: 2 x SM90!

Re: Looking for guidance in double-stacking an SM90 from inside a TV102i
Hi Bob and thank you for taking the time to provide a very valuable piece of advice and the reference to an excellent Cloudynights post. I understand that a second front-mounted etalon would provide the best DS setup. I do have another question then: I have read of people using regular refractors wi...

Looking for guidance in double-stacking an SM90 from inside a TV102i
Good day to the Solarchat community! I have a Coronado SM90 etalon and its Coronado BF combo mounted on a Televue TV102i refractor. It has given me great views for 15 years :-) . I am now looking to double stack this setup by adding an internal etalon. I believe that the second etalon could be mount...

If the goal is to do a flat, during the day time, wouldn't a simple semi-transparent clear piece of glass in front of the objective do the trick?

My 2 cents: in general, excellent astrophotographers have pushed their existing equipment to the limit before upgrading. It might be worth looking at what others have been able to achieve with the same setup as yours, to refine your technique and attention to small details as much as possible. When ...

Re: what level settings for false color cal k-line
Hi Chris,
If you are asking about the settings to colorize a monochrome image in CaK, here is what I use in Photoshop CS2: Adjustments/Color Balance, then I set Cyan to -75, Magenta to -100 and blue to +25. Example attached.
I hope that this helps.

Solar setup: watching the Sun live in CaK and H Alpha
Good day all, Recently I have upgraded the imaging laptop and monitor, so they can all handle 4K resolution. A friend of mine also lent me an ASI1600MM camera to complement my ASI174MM. Sometimes when the telecopes and cameras are all set, I go to my large monitor, a 4K TV to which the laptop is als...
