Dimensions of 40mm SolarMax II H-Alpha Double Stacking Etalon

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can direct me to a site that shows the external dimensions (including thread sizes) for the (Meade) Coronado SolarMax II H-Alpha Double Stacking Etalon Solar Filter (40mm ). Failing that, anyone have one that they could measure? My main concern is the external diameter - ...

Re: C11 ERF-Concept

Thanks Mark, Yes I agree... " Experiment is King!"... often too many talkers without proof. Now in retrospect, the results makes sense; chopping up the aperture would cause diffraction effects that would lead to a loss of contrast. The only thing I wonder about is resolution. The masked C1...

Re: C11 ERF-Concept

Well I made a mask for my C11. First attempt - Original Mask. Original Mask 950.jpg I suspected that the rough edges were contributing to image blur so I modified the mask using black tape to cover the edges of the holes. Second Attempt - Modified Mask Modified Mask 950.jpg Here's the results on the...

Re: C11 ERF-Concept

Hi Mark, Nice to hear from you again. RE: Yes, these ideas keep doing the rounds... Yes but they never seem to push through to a final image... unless I missed something. RE: You will get a fantastic starburst effect firstly with the pattern of sub apertures - try it on the moon and see. I would exp...

C11 ERF-Concept

This modification of solar telescope has been moved from cloudynights.com to solarchatforum.com. I'd like to use my C11 for Ha solar imaging... but the full aperture Energy Rejection Filters (ERFs) available as quite expensive - think US$ 2K+. I was wondering if I could accomplish the same thing wit...

Re: Have Etalon Will Travel

Oh, today I got a chance to test the portable etalon on my CT152, with an without a 2 inch 2X Televue Powermate.
All worked out OK... needed some extensions but I expected that. I'm happy!

Yikes... how did I miss all those in my search?
Maybe I was blind to adapters in the 38 Euro (CDN$57) range?

Have Etalon Will Travel

E1.jpg Ever wish you had a portable etalon? One that you could move from one scope to another? If so, please read on… as I show what I did to achieve this. My Story I have a LUNT LS50 solar telescope. E2.jpg I specifically bought the Lunt LS50 after measuring the diameter of the tube and verifying ...

Re: How to Calculate Sun diameter inside Light Cone?

Brett - thanks for posing the questions. Merlin66 - thanks for all the answers. This Thread has been very useful to me - revealed that replacing the 50mm objective lens of my Lunt LS50 with a Televue 2X Powermate and then breach loading the Lunt scope into my Canadian Telescope 152mm would require a...

Jim and Mark, thank you both so much for your help.
Jim, this thread of yours is now a great reference and will hopefully put an end to much of the misinformation out there.
Great Job Guys!

Ha, ha... this is great fun. Regarding your question Jim, "I hope this helps answer some of the questions you had?" Yes, at last! With these image comparisons and the image processing results, I believe I have the answer to my main question, that I posed on the Cloudynights forum, "Wh...

Re: Todays Sun 11NOV2016 Unenhanced FD

I want to thank marktownley for directing my attention to this Thread and to the 'friendly' solarchatforum.com. With Albuqshutterbug's tacit 'maybe OK' (thanks Jim) I processed (for surface detail only - not prominences) his first two unprocessed images, one from the color camera and one from the mo...
