Re: Camera Quark Nikon focus issues

I ended up not using my Quark for the eclipse. I will need to talk to somebody about focal issues.

Wyoming Totality

I drove around 2700 miles round trip to experience this amazing natural wonder. Just about everything that could go wrong did, but I persevered. I could never get my Quark to work. My mount never stayed connected to my computer, so I had to follow the sun manually (by hand). A couple of my widefield...

Re: Camera Quark Nikon focus issues

So I have tried changing the wavelengths and other properties and could not even see the sunspots that are so apparent with my mechanical filters. So I am going to wait until it is cooler to play with this filter. I may talk to the manufacturers sooner but I will deal with it after the eclipse, whic...

Re: Driving 12 hours for the eclipse?

My friend and I drove from Houston to Hastings Nebraska in 14 hours. The weather report changed overnight! It was getting better as we drove and then this morning the numbers for precipitation escalated to 50+% chance of rain. We were thinking of driving to Wyoming but it seemed that numbers were ju...

Re: Camera Quark Nikon focus issues

Hey Alexandra, nice blog! Thanks for the info. I am guessing that I need to work on that really soon! That may be a problem between work and driving to Nebraska but I will give it a try!

Thanks again! You have been a lotta help

Re: What is everyone going to image with?

Just about anything that shoots in my bag of tricks. All DSLRs from Nikon: D90 D700 D800 D810a and a point and shoot. Also my GoPro and maybe even my drone! I have a 127 mm scope that may not even come out but will have it out for deep sky imaging, Sigma 150-600 with a 1.4 with an adaptive glass fil...

Re: Where is everyone headed ?

Just going to wing it. I am driving from Houston after work on Friday with a friend and will head to where there are less people and even less clouds. The plan is Nebraska and find a farmer who will take a couple hundred dollars to allow setup for a few days. Probably won't have much of a background...

Re: Camera Quark Nikon focus issues

Thanks for the insight Mark! I'm not sure what I am going to get, but I was kind of expecting at least an indication of some chromosphere detail that would become more apparent with stacking. The sunspots were not apparent with the Quark like they were with the lens, although I still had a soft imag...

Re: Camera Quark Nikon focus issues

Here are a couple of my rigs. I will have 5 or 6 cameras set up when all is said and done. Not sure how successful I will be but it won't be for lack of trying! I bought a 3x loupe to help with focusing (for the shade more than anything else but the magnification helps a lot). I have that attached t...

Re: Camera Quark Nikon focus issues

Sorry, I knew that about ISO. The image is red and very dark in color like it is underexposed. I just found an old loupe and hope that that helps block the reflection and allow focusing. I will know better tomorrow.

Thanks

Thank you. He responded with too much exposure. But I can barely see anything as it is. I will check out his site.

Re: Camera Quark Nikon focus issues

I'm missing something there Mark. What does that mean and how do I fix it? Increase the ISO and use faster shutter speed?

Thanks

Introduction

Just thought that I would introduce myself. My name is Dave and I do photography during my free time. I photograph birds, deep sky Astrophotography, wide field night skies, and anything interesting to me. I was interested in solar imaging before the eclipse but did not have the equipment so didn't f...

Driving 12 hours for the eclipse?

So the solar eclipse peaked my interest in solar imaging and I decided to drive from Houston to Nebraska to try to get some images of the show. I like photography in general and have tried to do some Astrophotography and wide field Milky Way images have been my most recent favorite subjects before t...

Camera Quark Nikon focus issues

Hey all! First post of many, hopefully. I have tried to get my Setup for my Quark chromosphere Nikon filter and have had lots of "fun" trying to get things focused. I have been out in the 90+ degree and percent humidity of the Houston sun for three days fighting to get things set up before...
