Re: Solar Spectrum and direct connection to a refractor

Rupert Hi. I had second thoughts about posting this, but it proves what was said "It is possible to increase the F/D by adding a spacer..."" I've given up on the idea of a f35 system many years ago, but if someone made such a system I might jump for it, but, I'm concentrating on Hires Ca-K now and S...

Re: Solar Spectrum and direct connection to a refractor

Well I found the link to Frederic's "Setup with HaT" from March 23 2015 Screen Shot 2020-08-14 at 12.20.19.png Where a spacer is used to get to f/35. Is this plainly impossible. I'am reading all the way thru' "Commercial Solar Filters...

Re: August 3, 2020: Calcium Trio

Peter Hi. Thank you very much for the details and the curve. In 2010, I was in deep discussions with Dave Groski for more than 3 years. I opted for the Clifton Horne’s SHS that appeared in a copy of Sky and Telescope, in October 1971. It was fully built, my documentation of the build was poor compar...

Excellent, I took the liberty to show the sharpest image from the middle of the run.

Re: August 3, 2020: Calcium Trio

Very detailed workings being shown here Peter. I am slowly building my 2nd SHG. This one is a Littrow ala Fulvio Mete and I shall almost certainly use a 50mm x 50mm reflective holographic grating from Thorlabs. The extreme infraRed parameters for this grating collapse just beyond 825nm, so I must as...

Exceptional image Christian. I find that the cells look very much like the shiny cells of G-band very flat like float glass.

Ca-K at f/30 only this morning.

Three image from a morning that began poorly, almost 90% cloud cover. At around 11.00 am it had all cleared and rapidly setup. GONG supplied the clues since Austria is covered in 100% cloud. So, every thing happened quickly and processing the images was a quick. So the order is from East to West I h...

Photoshop and layers

I seem to have gone rather rusty over the use of photoshop in my weeks of layoff. It involves layers and blending etc. Montana posted this recently, I cannot remember where... and I would certainly Montana and layers.png hijack the post that it was found in if I begun a conversation. I wonder if you...

20200729- today, one only in Ca-K

Nearly 7 weeks since my last presentation. Quickly processed since there was not much to do. I will later today, have a go on the layers. Captured by eye with the fibrils clearly seen. Capture at f/30 and no more. SSM Min : 00.43 SSM Average : 00.95 SSM Max : 01.59 Number of images : 498 Part of a s...

Re: SHS/ SHG Holographic Grating choices

It would be extremely useful to have a photo that shows this (enclosed and well sealed) housing. Over the years I have done many searches on the internet that bring up 'nothing'. A professional such as yourself has tried and tested this particular safeguard and I think this would be quite instructiv...

Re: SHS/ SHG Holographic Grating choices

Oh, what precautions to do you use to keep dust away from the face of your gratings? Or do you just dismantle and put back into box, face up.
I believe that Edmunds' allow bulb blowers to be used.
Any thoughts.

Re: SHS/ SHG Holographic Grating choices

Joe much appreciated. Thank you for clearing up the lower efficiency. As regard the Rowland, ultimately want we want is a 'small' portion of the spectrum that revels Ha, Ca-K etc. Or is it too fiddly to reach these lines? Or is it something else. And secondly is astigmatism on a zerodur base still p...

SHS/ SHG Holographic Grating choices

Well I am again embarking on my second SHS/ SHG. This time its a Fluvio Mete Littrow imaging train layout. A ultra lightweight setup. And its linear. I have the rail, the two telescopes, FS-60 taking the incoming light and a ST80 taking the retroreflective grating that returns the light to a 3-port ...
