17th October WL granulation

Today was moderately clear weather, high pressure but showers and a gusty wind. The sun only getting to just over 20 degrees altitude. However I have been noticing that the SSM shows quite good readings despite all this at around 1 arcsec. So I tried the SW200 (f1000mm) Newtonian with ND3.8, Baader ...

Re: Help Diagnose an SCT?

I tried a secondhand Celestron 9.25 with ND3.8 UV/IR and Baader continuum with TVx5 or Barlow x3. It lacked contrast and was very difficult to focus. Stacking software failed to latch onto the granulation cells. After reading about Solar Newtonians on the forum I got hold of a very cheap 200mm f1000...

Lovely sequence, it shows how interesting off-band images can be, especially animated. I have noticed that but not acted on it very often.

Lovely animation and great additions. I would add that ImPPG is very good for aligning frames too, anyhow all very interesting

Re: White light solar observations,questions..

With narrowish band filter eg Baader Continuum an achromat is probably ok but best optical quality that is affordable is a good plan for detailed imaging in WL. Without the narrow band filter APO will be better. Probably the wedge size is dependent on the camera chip size. Smaller CCD chip allows a ...

Great results and I think your seeing must be good to get granulation like that with 130mm aperture. No boring at all!

I did a CaK FD to locate them and a cropped view in CaK to compare. Robert SW200 ND3.8 Astrosolar, Continuum, UV/IR, TV x5 https://farm2...
