Re: April 24th FD

Mark... You are correct in your thinking that the closest element to the camera is a square filter, a laminate of two pieces. Lunt suggested I check that this element hadn't shifted in transit (it seems to be seated right) and also to use a black marker to blacken the edges of the two glass element...

Re: FD Aug Apr 19 with Altair 125mm and 3nm CaK

Mark - so I'd been using an APM 107 triplet and 140 doublet previously. The 107 needed masking at G-band let alone CaK to get just an unfuzzy FD at all. The 140 seemed fine at G but needed masking at CaK, and was then OK in CaK (3nm) when viewed as a FD with masking to around 70-80mm. The Altair 12...

Re: FD Aug Apr 19 with Altair 125mm and 3nm CaK

Did the wedge have a ND filter installed? 10ms is quite a long exposure time. There is no ND but I do have a polarizer and I'm going to have another fiddle with the angle it is set at. I'm not convinced it is set correctly yet though it's not as dark as it was. I'd remove the polariser completely. ...

Mark, I have setup various test combinations and did try the K-Line as you suggested but the ghost is still there. The other trail I did was to remove the ERF side of the module (mine is a straight through model) and used the Solar Wedge and the ghost persists (I had the CaK setup in the Solar Wedg...

Re: FD Aug Apr 19 with Altair 125mm and 3nm CaK

This was mainly a SA test to verify Altair view that I did not need to mask to control the SA at least. I'd have to disagree with Altair here, SA is an inherent feature of refractor lens design, with doublets and more so triplets in the UV. Its only a few very expensive specialist designs where it ...

Mark, I was trying an additional reducer ring today like you mentioned but haven't looked at the images yet. I put the Baader K-Line in in as a test to see if the ghost was reduced (and was not). I didn't see the ghost change wit the reduced aperture today either. More work required. Hiya Brian. Ca...

Looking back at historical records the spot was actively evolving and it was 2 spots that merged into one.

I think light bridges form when a single spot splits into 2.

Looks promising! You will make life a lot easier for yourself in terms if seeing by stopping the scope down to half the native aperture. You will also get more contrast from it.
