Anyone else using a DS LS100 w/ 6mp PGR Grasshopper?

I have a LS100 w/DSII and a 6mp PGR Grasshopper3. I thought that after a little practice I could make nice FD images like others on this forum. However, I cannot get the FD entirely 'on-band.' So my questions are: Do others have this same 'sweet spot' issue with this configuration? Am I simply not t...

ISS transit

Although not a sharp as rxdeath's video, this is my first attempt at the ISS transit on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Thanks to rxdeath, and to CalSky for their predictions.

Beautifully done sir! I should post mine, too, even though yours is much better.

AVI is too long

I accidentally recorded an .avi for far too long and it is 23gb. Way too big for AS!2 to handle. Is there a way to trim it to just the first 500 frames so I can process it?

first effort at inverted FD from June 17

Still learning how all this works. I thought I would experiment in PS with an inverted image. I like what it does for filaments, and the brighter limb makes it easier to mate with a separate exposure of proms. This full disc image is a composite of surface+proms exposures. My exposure of the proms h...

Re: Making slow progress

Thanks to all for the encouragement. I have watched many of Mark Townley's tutorials and at first applied them all to my images. I now realize that each serves a purpose, but applying them all was just torturing the reality out of my efforts. I am till striving for the delicate details i see in the ...

Making slow progress

I have tried this about six times now, and after getting some great advice from forum members, I see some improvement. I am still disappointed with the results compared to others on this forum, however. Specifically, using cameras with lower resolution than the one I am using, others seem to be gett...

Re: Learning to get 'on-band'

Thanks for the advise OTangen. I will try this today. Can you describe how to rotate the ERF in the focuser? It sounds like you have the B3400 which is what I have as well. I removed the focuser, but I don't see how to rotate the ERF within it. Anyway thank you very much for the suggestions. Randall...

Learning to get 'on-band'

I have added a DSII to my Lunt LS100 and I am quite confused about the tuning. The instructions are not too specific so I feel like I am just blindly twisting the tuners until it looks good. There must be a better method than this. Even so, my best efforts result in a full disc which is not entirely...

Re: First effort

Thank you for the advice! I used a Lunt LS100, PGR Grasshopper3 (6mp), Firecapture 500 frames @ 25fps, Registax using wavelet sharpening with all sliders at 10-15%, and Photoshop using Highlight/Shadow adj, and to combine the surface and proms images. I colored it by adding a layer to the final BW i...

First effort

I am new t this. I bought a scope and a camera and yesterday was the first day without cluds eveythig went together. So this is my first Ha photo attempt. Compared to others I have seen here I thought it looked a little over sharpened. Dimensionally it looks less like a sphere and more like a coin. ...

Re: trouble installing DSII module on LS100

I spoke to the good people at Lunt and they are sending a replacement part that will fix my problem. Their customer service is first rate. I suppose many of you already know that, but they deserve the shout-out nevertheless. Thanks Gus.

trouble installing DSII module on LS100

I have a Lunt LS100 and I am trying to install their DSII module. Looks like a straightforward project but the DSII doesn't seem to slip far enough into the OTA for the provided thumbscrews to seat securely. I certainly don't want to force anything. Can anyone advise me on this?

Laptop advice

I am gearing up to look at the sun in Ha for the first time. I have the scope, and a 6mp PGR Grasshopper3. I am a Mac user, but sadly the software support for this hobby on a Mac is pitiful. So I need to get a Windows laptop to run the camera and process the files. I won't use the new machine for an...

More rudimentary questions

Everyone has been so helpful but it seems the more I learn, the more I need to know. Ya know? Anyway I have some basic questions I hope someone can help me with as I prepare to dive in head-first. Regarding the myriad choices of cameras, is there an advantage to CCD over CMOS sensors (or vice versa)...

Camera advice for a newbie

I am a photojournalist in Northern California. I am starting to plan for next year’s total solar eclipse, and I want to photograph the partial phases in H-alpha. I have done as much “Google” homework as I can and I think I will be buying a Lunt H-a scope (probably the 100). I am coming at this proje...
