Thanks everyone, woke up to snow and ice again this morning, optimistic I may (?) get a chance to image later on. I've just taken delivery of a new telecentric so the odds are stacked against me

What about the N.E. one too James, as looking closely at SDO at this un-earthly hour in the UK, there is almost certainly a large spot in that one ?? Terry I'm not seeing it yet in the HMI image full size (open below in a new tab for full size) https://sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov/assets/img/latest/latest_409...

These are excellent Eric! Loving the Ha closeups, sun needs to be a bit higher for me to get in at that scale.

Re: Delivery of clouds and WL wedge (h-alpha inbound)
Good to hear you finally got a view Simon, I thought you would see that line. Did you use the 178 with 2x2 binning?
If you do get a replacement good luck with it being a good one - shouldn't have to wish luck really but that is the way with Daystar

Your conditions sounded like what mine were. I'm hoping (lol) for maybe an improvement tomorrow, weekend is here, thank goodness! Thanks for your observations and support of the forum James, the reports you post are invaluable for us cloud stricken Brits!

CaK Full Disk 22nd January 2021
Friday was forecast to be sunny so I arranged to work at home. Getting up way before dawn I scheduled all my emails and work to go out at a more reasonable hour with the aim of wrapping up by lunch ready for some solar. The morning was glorious, deep blue skies and I was happy, then from nowhere ins...

If the resolution of the scope is greater than the resolution the seeing allows you will never get a sharp focus, no amount of collimation will change it.

Can see lots of FD images with the DS40 - nice flat contrasty field! Looks like images from before a certain date don't exist anymore on here
Any with the 90 you can point me to? I'm right in saying it's a single stack filter rather than a double stack unit?

Thanks Terry.
There's another emerging flux region developed just off the meridian in the northern hemisphere too that is sporting a pair of spots! Woohoo!
Give me 6 hours and clear skies remaining and I should be able to get an imaging session in.
