Yes the PG IMX174 has been faultless so far with extremely high frame rates on USB3 saving to an SSD.
My old camera was a DMK""618 but maxed out at 60Fps

Re: First Ha Solar Image
Hi Ewan, FC works for me, as does Genika. But Genika misses some features. If I want to make an animation I set the fps at about 40 fps. Otherwise the SSD explodes in a short time. As far as I know I can't control the fps in Genika. The PGR IMX174 has a 10/12 bit ADC. So it seems that you can't tak...

Re: First Ha Solar Image
Firstly well done Christopher on your 1st FD capture. I have a PG IMX174 but don't 'get on' with FC so I use Genika Astro which is very straightforward. I think my USB3 ports has SS next to the port so you know which is which, worth a look. From what I have read SER files are preferable over AVI as ...

That 2nd image is the one that really got me thinking that maybe I could use my C8, I understand mine is not the HD or indeed I will not be as low as 0.3A but even so I have to give this some serious thought. As you know Christian, when we spoke before, the filter & cell won't be wasted either w...

Re: Noise, Firecapture and imaging questions
I can't help with much sorry Alexandra but I thought the 8Bit-16Bit button etc auto detects the input file & adjusts accordingly. I am sure if you try to load an 8Bit file & select 16Bit the image goes to pot, havn't used it in a while though same as most. Just trying it on my 'Heart & S...

I think you'll find a better image with the refractor, despite the theoretical improvement from additional aperture for the SCT (or is that not the question?) Please let us know how it turns out If you take a look at Christian Viladrich's SCT images Bruce I think you will be quite surprised as to t...

Yes as soon as you mentioned the D-ERF size I realised the difference would be even greater :D So you have no problems using a native Quark giving F42 or there abouts then ? good news for me then. I have an idea on full ERF design but need to find someone who could machine a cell for me. Anyway this...

Re: Would someone be kind enough to verify my figures in case i missed something please ;-)
You need to measure the free aperture of the ERF (it will be less than 135mm as some of it is held in the cell wall) to get the right numbers. As you said once before Mark it was indeed 125mm. The main thing I was trying to find out was how much difference there is using a 152mm or the C8 @ 203mm, ...

Bart can't you use Genika Astro instead ?
That software already allows RAW capture & full speed captures, 8Bit full res should give around 163Fps & 16Bit around 87Fps.
Takes a little time to get used to Genika but once you do it's great & reliable.

Yep I have a Point Grey IMC174, 1920 x 1200 res, at full res, Mode 7 on in 16 Bit it does around 87Fps, 8Bit will over double that rate. Very low noise as Christian explained. 1280 res is a good setting for me as 3ms - 5ms 20 second captures give a lot of frames with a high chance of good images. A ...

Thanks for sharing Oreoluna, can you say why did you choose to use binning ?
I have tried it a few times on my 152mm Quark set up but the final images always seemed to lose definition, the final detail seemed less present than non binned.
Was it because of seeing conditions I wonder ?

Fantastic image it is too, goes to show though aperture doesn't 'always' win. The biggest factor for me is the conditions here in the UK but every now & then the seeing can be good. As I have said before the Quark, in particular, opened the 'solar imaging doors' to a lot of people that otherwise...
