Re: Degree of brightness change with double-stacking?

Thanks Bob. Just wondering how this filter is added to the system? Is the idea to swap out one of the filters in the B1800? From my understanding, the leading part of the blocking filter diagonal has the blue disc to reduce the overall brightness and the trailing part has both the filter we are refe...

Re: Degree of brightness change with double-stacking?

I see what you mean. I can probably get a little 'sidestep' with this. Typically, today was the only cloudy day in months, so I'll have to wait a little to give this a go.

Re: Degree of brightness change with double-stacking?

Thanks Bob, that's interesting info about the other blocking filter option. I only have the B1800 and a B1200 (which needs a new blue glass disk). If I can sort out the centering of the sweet spot, I think I'd like to try the KG3 option. How would I source one of these? I've emailed Lunt to see if t...

Re: A few from 5 Feb

Thanks all. Ivan, yes these are with the LS152 and a 4x barlow. Rainer, agreed about the prom image having too much white disc. I often cut this out, but didn't bother for that shot as it was one of those inherently 'blurry' proms, which I tend not to work too hard on. Maybe I'm a 'prom snob'? :D

Re: Degree of brightness change with double-stacking?

Hi Mark. I was wondering what options I might have for collimating the optics. An email to Lunt will be the next step for that, I guess. Never tried it in the 11+ years I've had the scope, so perhaps it's time. I read a review of the DSII for the LS152, which noted that the drop in brightness was le...

Degree of brightness change with double-stacking?

Hi all, Got inspired to pull out the DSII module for the LS152 with the aim of trying to get it usable for imaging (previous attempts have not been good). I still note that the drop in brightness with the double stack is more significant than I thought it should be but I don't have the experience wi...

The seeing was reasonably good this morning but not quite as good as it has been, so not quite getting the finest detail. Plenty of areas worth having a look at, though.

That's a good image for the first attempt with this setup. I have struggled with doublestacking myself and received the advice to try different angles between the units. I didn't see a huge difference, but thought one configuration seemed a bit better than others. I had wondered if having an off-cen...
