Hello all! First let me say thank you for any replies and advice you may offer, and secondly I am excited about getting started in solar imaging. I already have the camera I will be using, Celestron Skyris 445M, and I am on the cusp of purchasing a Lunt 80mm SS PT 1800 scope. However, I have noticed it comes with two options for a focuser, but I want to motorize it. Are any of you using a motorized Focuser? If so which one? Are there any recommendations as to which Focuser is better suited for imaging?
Are y'all just placing your camera in the diagonal or do you remove it and image straight on? Also, will I need any special extension to reach focus? I am still a little unsure as to what the pressure tuner does. Is this a one time adjustment each imaging session, or do you have to keep adjusting it? I'm trying to keep myself from being up and down adjusting; I just want to sit at my computer screen and image like I do for astrophotography.
If there are any other hints or suggestions please feel free to comment. I want to get it right the first time in my selections of hardware. Thanks again.
Glen

Re: I need imaging advice
you cannot remove the diagonal for imaging or visual as it contains the 2nd element for safe filtration.
The options for focuser are standard 10:1 chinese Crayford or Feathertouch. The difference is night and day, get the feathertouch.
The camera you have wiill not procvide a full disk image, just so you know. It is a good camera but will require mosaics to get a full disk. The scope you have chosen is the best value on the market and what I highly recommend.
Sitting inside and imaging with this scope is a crime in my opinion as it will be used on mostly beautiful sunny days. to each his own though.

Hi Glen
welcome to that wonderful site, have fun in the sun. Nowadays I would start with a ASI174 camera

Thank you both for your recommendations. I will check out the camera that was suggested just in case I decide to swap cameras. Hopefully I will be up and imaging within a couple of weeks.

Alright! Lunt 80mm solar scope is ordered and on its way!!!!! I decided to also order a Moonlite Focuser with a High Stepper motor to go on the Lunt. Now the waiting game begins.
