My friend send me this image today (Long Pern 72mm f/6 refractor, ASI178MM) using Antlia Herschel Wedge and 1.25’’ Cak 3nm Solar Filter.

Has anyone got any experience with this product https://astronomytechnologytoday.com/20 ... lar-wedge/?

At Price:US$339, this CaK wedge sounds like a reasonable price compared to other CaK filters as long as it does the job as well as...

Thanks for the very sharp FD's

At 3nm, it is narrower than the Baader K-line filter but Lunt Calcium K filters are more like 0.2nm.

It looks pretty much the same as a Baader K-line to me in terms of results...

Nice disc, the wedge is good enough.

The results are just a higher angular resolution of the photosphere, despite the wavelength. 3nm (30A) is just too wide to show the chromosphere. As you approach 5A (0.5nm) you start to see chromosphere, and really it needs to be even more narrow than that. So the results are still just white light. I don't recommend any of these expensive 3nm+ "CaK" filters for actual Calcium imaging, they're just near UV photosphere filters basically. People use them as pre-filters or ERFs for their far more narrow and expensive Calcium filters that have angstrom bandpass.

Very best,

Hello,
This is definitely NOT a Ca K filter. Its bandpass is way too large. Ca K filters are more in the range of 0.4 nm bandpass or lower.
It is amazing such a filter can be advertized as a Ca K filter.
