Scam alert

Post by Pablito »

A guy logged here as "gear101" using email: [email protected] tried to offer me Lunt LS50F filter. He sent me pics. I found them via google. He used pics from here: http://www.astromart.com/classifieds/de ... _id=798360
What made me laught is that he said the filter is a year and 6 month old :)

He didn't use any name, just said he is from Spain (yeah, sure...)

Me too. I received an offer for a Lunt 80 with pictures. He mailed me an identity card (David Martin from Ireland), but couldn't mail me an invoice or a closeup pic with serial number.

Thanks for all this input folks - if we're talking about this sort of thing on a regular basis then between us we can be aware of it and flush it out of the hobby.

Is this possible that this part of forum can be visited only by members with a certain history of posts number and/or time being registered here?
So, a scam newcamers can't look and post here. ???

That is how it is done on Stargazers Lounge, I think you have to have 500 posts before you can see the classified now.

Personally I think 500 is far too many.
50 posts should be enough to get the feel of a person, and some people just read without posting much so a high limit alienates the keen quiet person ...

The original purpose of the shop and swap forum was for people to give away their unused gear for outreach purposes to others or to swap what they had for someone else's used gear to better enable people to share resources for solar astronomy outreach.

If it gets to be some sort of scam artist hangout then we'll just drop it all together.
