Solar Wedge query

Post by clearestimage »

I have just bought a 6" refractor (TMB152) and want to use my Lunt 2" solar wedge with it for hi res imaging of sunspots.

The problem is that it just doesn't feel right aiming a telescope of that spec at the Sun without a full aperture filter! I use an ND3 and TiO filter in the wedge which brings the light level down to a quite acceptable level for my DMK 21AU618 camera.

So my question is for a refractor in the 6" aperture bracket do I need to use some sort of ERF filter in addition to what I already have in place to use the wedge safely?

Hi guess ;)

welcome to that wonderful site. Have fun in the sun.

Your 6" works fine with the WL wedge, but it is of advantage to use an UV/IR block filter 2" up front the wedge. I use a Beloptic, works perfect
