Just out of interest how many people can see the SPOD today and also the sponsor images above?
For the past month Google Chrome seems to have changed and I can no longer see certain images. Works fine if you change to Firefox or Microsoft edge on a PC and also Safari on a Mac.
Seems to be chat on the web that you now have to display the security certificate to show hotlinked images on Google Chrome 83
Does anyone know what this means in English so I can enjoy Solarchat properly on a PC?

Re: SPOD and sponsor images
Hi Alexandra,
I can see everything. The easiest way you can continue enjoying the SolarChatForum is to ditch Google Chrome and change to Firefox.
Some time ago I was also a friend of Google Chrome but then my sound started to fail and no workaround for repairing it so I ditched Google Chrome and now I am using Firefox and everything is OK.
Sometimes they exaggerate ...
We can be lucky that we still do not need a Password for going to the toilet. Imagine we forget it ...

Re: SPOD and sponsor images
Hi Alexandra,
It’s a bit hit and miss in my experience. iPad and PC mostly show the images without issue, but occasionally I just get the word ‘Image’ where the image should be. I put this down to my snail pace broadband connection, but will keep any eye on things now you’ve raised the question.

I normally use firefox with no problems at all, but I just checked with Chrome (in Ubuntu) and it also shows all the images.

Re: SPOD and sponsor images
This is what it looks like on a PC / Wind 10 and Google Chrome latest version. If I use Firefox or Edge it is absolutely fine and also with Apple + Safari.
I would like the new version of Chrome to also work but they say you need an SSL (as above).

Hi Alexandra,
Just checked on my PC running Chrome. The SPoD image and sponsor images are NOT showing. Some of the topic images also aren't showing, such as Christian's latest post.

Re: SPOD and sponsor images
Alexandra,
what I understand from this: images which are on a "non-secure" website (http) wil not be shown when linked in a page. The website containing the image must be https (an therefore have a certificate to prove it is the correct one) Maybe a bit exagerated in this case, but I can see the need for it trying to avoid hacking, malware, fraude ....
Even downloads might be blocked: https://www.ghacks.net/2020/10/08/chrom ... re-is-why/

Re: SPOD and sponsor images
So is that the end of using Chrome then? I have to use Firefox or Edge to enjoy Solarchat and use Chrome for everything else. That is a bit disappointing really. I can see their point thought. So users of Astrosurf need to complain to their host then? the problem seems to be most commonly from this site. I have no idea about the sponsors images though, I will have to ask Stephen about this. At least I know that it is nothing I can do about it and it is not a problem unique to me. Thanks for the pearl of wisdom Paul
