Solar eclipse (also annotated with scale and star field)

Post by AndrevdHoeven »

This image shows an a so-called Pellett processing of the Solar Corona during the last eclipse as made in Teton Village, WY. I made about 22 images using several exposures to try to catch the complete corona during the eclipse and the surrounding star field. The equipment used for this image was a Nikon D810a equipped with a 300mm f/4 Nikon lens. The exposures ranged from 1/800s @ f/8 to 4s @ f/4 at iso 200.

In this image it can be seen how large the corona was during the eclipse, ranging up to 5.000.000 km in this image and even more outside of the image coverage. In total there are about 30 stars visible in the image up to a magnitude of +9.5.

I was astonished to see how far the corona could be distinguished in the images, and will never forget the sight of the streamers as they were visible...

This is an image showing the eclipse as I experienced it from Teton Village. It was really a marvellous sight!
