ISS pass 19th October 2018

Post by Montana »

Gosh, it has been a very long time since I used my solar telescope, I couldn't remember how to use it. But I had a holiday and it was Thursday and Friday so of course the Sun was out and two beautiful days. However, yesterday I was a zombie, I had a bad cold and was suffering jet lag in extreme. But today I had an ISS transit at 10.34 am so I had to make an effort. After trying to remember how I used the Baader herschel wedge, I set up but it was 100% cloud. It was all looking very bleak up to 10.20 am as the cloud was still thick and I hadn't even focused yet. Then it suddenly cleared and by 10.31 am I was able to focus and set up. I couldn't believe my luck as I got it! Seeing was pitiful but I got it and that was all that mattered.

The Sun stayed out and managed a hydrogen alpha full disc as well :)

Great catch! That's pretty rare.

Catching the transit in H-a would be awesome, but the exposures are longer and the motion might blur.

Super, super, super session, Alexandra!

And I especially love the full disk. It was taken with double stack, I guess?

Great stuff Alexandra - transits are always great to capture - awesome Ha discs BTW.
I know the feeling about a long spell without scoping - poor weather, little Solar activity & other duties have kept me away for some time. Maybe soon!

Super ISS transit, Alexandra. You were so lucky to have the clouds roll back for you just in time!

Julie and I are Voyager fans too. It's nice that you got to meet some of the stars of the show.
