Another geomagnetic storm 11th Nov 2018

Post by Carbon60 »

Hi folks,

Another geomagnetic storm (or is that two?) hit on 9th and 10th. They may actually both be part of the same event, originating at the Sun as fast flowing solar wind with a varying magnetic field, sometimes pointing south, linking with our own magnetic field, or pointing north, being deflected away and around the Earth and swinging over the past couple of days at least twice between the two.

Here are my magnetometer data throughout the event(s).

Things seem to have settled down a bit for now, but solar minimum means more regular coronal holes, so it shouldn't be too long before the next storm arrives. Good news for Aurora chaser.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

Good record Stu, i'd a couple of alerts come through on my phone these past couple of days too. Your graphic also includes the cycle 25 sunspot that briefly appeared.

Thank you, Stu. A very interesting graph and informative SPOD ! I am very impressed you can do this kind of monitoring from your home.

Fantastic!! I saw this first on Spaceweather :hamster: and now a SPOD :hamster:
I wonder why I am not getting any alerts so far this year, especially if Mark is?

HI Stu...

Great coverage of the storms with the recent posts, and congrats on having the SPOD and Spaceweather references. Well done :bow

Mark, I'm curious to know where the new cycle spot appears on the graph?

On the little graphic of the suns disk it is the bright region at the 2 o'clock position.

We'll have our settings different in the app. I'm on 'minor' & 'UK'.

Hi Mark...

Thanks for clarifying...I was looking for something 'different' on Stuarts's graph that showed the new cycle, but the inset image is what you referred to.
