New Active Region 8th March
Conditions were tricky this morning, a cold front passing through overnight meant Sunday dawned with a showery unstable air mass, complicating imaging by 2 different layers of haze moving across the sky meaning it was very much a case of watching the laptop screen and when free of clouds pressing record.
First off the full disk with the travelling scope - a Lunt50 etalon double stacked with a daystar Quark, the disk is a bit rough and ready but gives a good overview of things:

Following a shower I switched scopes for the SM90 and the 2x cemax barlow for (as yet) the undesignated active region:

Double stacking the SM90 with a Quark gave a bit more image scale and also more contrast, however the temperature hadn't settled on the quark so gives a slightly more uneven field than I know I can get:

A particulary dark cloud was racing towards me then heralding the next shower, so, deciding I was going to get all I could realistically today I decided to pack up and head inside. Nice to get both some sun and also some activity.
Hope the sun is shining for you.
Mark

Re: New Active Region 8th March
Absolutely awesome images Mark! The detail in the active region is impressive. If I could only see it visually that large and sharp.

Re: New Active Region 8th March
Excellent, Mark. Lovely images of this new active region and proms. I had a really busy weekend decorating which curtailed my solar time, only getting a few minutes on Friday. Unfortunately this was before the spot emerged.

A terrific set of images, Mark. You succeeded in getting very good results in spite of the conditions.

That is a mighty fine collection Mark, the double stack AR shot is a real beauty, and also super to see you imaging some prominences
