Prom+semiactive region, and full disc from 05-26-20

Post by AJamesB »

It was a beautiful late morning, so with coffee in hand I was able to enjoy average to slightly above average seeing and a wonderfully clear sky with perfectly warm weather. Wish I could get more days like this, lol.

It was also my first time experiementing with using the 'masked stretch' feature of Pixinsight to bring out the prominences but without blowing out the double limb, and without having to do a second exposure then stacking. I am a lazy astro imager, so anything I can do to cut down on work I'll do. Worked quite well, was able to preserve some detail and texture in the double limb, and didn't need to resize the main disc to cover it up or anything like that. I think this will become part of my standard work flow from here on, I think it just needs some fine tuning to eliminate the slight gradient difference just outside the double limb, should be easy to do in photoshop I hope.

I don't think you're lazy. You just believe as I do. Don't do more then you have to. " Work smarter not harder " :) To be honest that is one of the biggest deterrents for me when it comes to solar imaging. It seems to be A LOT of work. However I would like to learn at least some on it so I could use it to help document my observations with my visual descriptions. I currently use GONG images. It would be so much better to use my own.

That prom is really tall. It's really apparent in your images.

What IS the double limb? Photosphere bleed-through or the spicule layer or both?

James
