AR 2765 and the long filament - June 7, 2020

Post by ffellah »

Hello everybody: a beautiful sunny day today with below average seeing. After a very long time waiting, I received a Solar Spectrum loaner filter while my one is being repaired. I thought I would give it a try with the large scope, notwithstanding the poor seeing. AR 2765 is beautiful and there was this very long filament.

I definitely had fun. Hope you also had a chance to spend some time with the sun this weekend.

Franco

Franco,
Those are stunning views of that large filament. I wish I could get this kind of sharpness, resolution and magnification visually.

James, Eric: thank you very much for your kind words.

I apologize, specially to Rainer, as the images are incorrectly oriented: they are all upside down

Originally they were correct, then for some reason I flipped them

What the heck...

All Right, Franco! Looks like you're back in business and making that loaner work well. Just curious, is it the same model as yours or did they slip you a RG instead?

Thank you Dan and Phil. It is the same case but he replaced the etalon with a new one that runs hot (64 Celsius). The filter works but I definitely prefer my original etalon that run at a cooler 38 Celsius. This one also quickly drained one of my portable batteries.

Franco,
Great result, excellent presentation.
If that's "below average seeing" just wait to you visit over here in the Bellarine....I'll show you BELOW average seeing.
Well done.

Franco,

Interesting about the operating temperature. I run mine at about 59.0°C using AC power. Sometimes it would be nice to battery power the unit I have and I'm curious as to the battery you use and the run times.

Hi Franco,

Lovely images. The long filament, spots, penumbra and the fibrils made a nice setup.
