Ca K image taken on August 2 with the 300 mm solar telescope - best resolution yet

Post by christian viladrich »

Dear All,

Here is my first ever Ca K image taken with the 300 mm solar Newtonian telescope. The seeing was far from perfect, still there is a huge increase in resolution compared to the images taken with my 150 mm TOA refractor. A very different world opens to itself. A lot of detail is visible inside the reverse granulation cells. The intergranular grains are visible, just like in G-band, but at the chromospheric level instead of the photosphere level

Image

Both EO393-10 nm and Alluxa Ca K filters are tilted. The EO394-10 nm filter is used to reject reflection away for the main image.

Finally, the exposure time remains reasonable even with the uncoated mirror. Weather permitting, I hope to get some images of the small sunspot currently visible.

Kind regards

Christian Viladrich

Super image Christian!

Do the two filters allow you to see filaments in CaK?

Very best,

Great, both setup and imaging result!
you can count granulation cells one by one in Ca, incredible... I count days tracking the Lunt CaK just ordered
thanks, Christian!

Aren’t the granules seen in CaK known as super granules? Similar to the granules seen in the white light photosphere but larger.

Just wonderful!!! I need to save this image and use it as a guide for my C11 CaK imaging attempts. It is encouraging to see your flat scales as I was starting to see this but mine have a swirling motion included too (bad seeing and bad stacking). I wish I was at the top of the mountain too :bow :bow :bow

Exceptional image Christian. I find that the cells look very much like the shiny cells of G-band very flat like float glass.
All the best
John

Hi

Very encouraging.

Hopefully get time this winter to get my 300mm solar dobsonian project done.

Cheers. Andrew.

Absolutely superb image, Christian, really pushing the limits of what can be achieved by solar enthusiasts and something to aspire to. We mere mortals will probably never quite get there, but it’s a lesson into what can be achieved with the right kit operated with skill under good conditions. I’m wondering what you’re limits will be when the conditions are perfect. :)
