white and blue sun of 30 October

Post by stef41 »

Good evening to all,

It's been years since I've had the opportunity (and something to see) to observe the sun with the C8 with the astrosolar!
Yesterday, great weather at the Sirene Observatory, transparent sky (between the clouds) and not too much wind or turbulence, so I was tempted! :)

Apart from the astrosolar (density 5), I didn't have much of a filter on hand apart from an astronomik L3 (IR-UV cut) filter.

two small views of the atmosphere :)

Image

Image

At C8/GP-DX with astrosolar + barlow x2 televue + astronomik filter L3 + zwo178mm around 10h35 UT

granulation towards the centre of the sun (75% reduction)

Image

the two groups of stains AR2778 / AR2779 (reduction 75%)

Image

and then, a little later, I got my hands on a W47; coupled with the L3, it makes a blue filter (between 400 and 500nm)

I don't know if it's really worth imaging the sun with a blue filter ... but well, why not. :)
And as I was afraid of not having enough flux with the televue, I replaced it by the glasspath x1.7.

so C8/GP-DX with astrosolar + astronomik L3 filter + W47 filter + glasspath x1.7 + zwo178mm around 11h05 UT (acquisition size)

Image

Sincerely,
stéphane

WoW Stephane, these kick butt!! Very nice. Awesome granulation! Have you tried sharpening that first one a little more? It may help it be a little more " crisp ". Still, excellent work!!

Is the Sirene Observatory yours? I like the use of the shipping crate-like enclosures for the scopes. I would get one if I could pick one up reasonably.

the observatory is not mine :) it is an observatory open to the public and managed by an association, of which I am a member.
There are visits (when there is no confinement) where the public can use certain instruments, places for amateurs who would like to come and spend the night with their instruments, and an area where instruments can be installed remotely ( https://www.obs-sirene.com/ ).

Congratulations on some superb images! :bow

Now it seems we all have to have C8s instead of refractors! :D
