Testing a Calcium corrector on a C11 (New image added 26Dec)
22 Dec - The seeing condition is typical of the tropical year-end weather. I took some video using the C11 fitted with ARIES tri-band D-ERF, a 10" mask plus Chroma filters in a skybender. The setup:
In a 1 hour window which featured thin clouds, I had some images on AR12794:
and a survey of the surrounding:
Please do a right click to see the images in full resolution.
Take care.

Re: Testing a Calcium corrector on a C11 and AR 2794 in CAK
Thanks Franco and James.
I am testing a calcium corrector from Apollo. Initial test results showed that it is a promising product.
Previously I have done quite a number of tests to get the Televue x2.5 powermate to work with the C11 for CAK imaging. And now I am getting rid of the Teleview x2.5 PM by replacing it with a calcium corrector. The corrector gives about x2.25 magnification and sharper images.
The corrector lens replaces the Televue x2.5 PM at the front of the skybender:
Unfortunately, the seeing is poor at this time of the year making it not so ideal for testing the corrector. I managed to get some more images today and will be posting them later after post processing.

Re: Testing a Calcium corrector on a C11 and AR 2794 in CAK
Dear Alexandra,
These 2 images were taken this morning (23 Dec at 9am local time) in average/poor seeing condition. I could see the boiling action in the video. However, it turned out ok. I am quite happy with the calcium corrector bringing out much better results from the C11 SCT:
Please do a right click and click on the "+" to see the image in its full resolution. As usual, I have applied minimum processing.
I believe I should be able to get even better results in good seeing condition.

Results look very impressive considering the conditions, Alfred.
I'm unfamiliar with that Apollo corrector, sounds interesting though. Do you happen to have a link to the manufacturer website or so (couldn't find anything though a quick Google search)?

oooh I would love one, if I could get an image like the last one I would be dancing all round the garden was that full aperture or still stopped down?

Re: Testing a Calcium corrector on a C11 and AR 2794 in CAK
Dear Alexandra,
I was equally surprised when I first saw the video using the calcium corrector on Firecapture. It looked sharper. I was so afraid that the clouds would cover the Sun that I kept recording and forgot to remove the mask, something I wanted to do. It was stopped down.

Hi Jochen,
It is a new product, designed and fabricated by Apollo. I am not sure if he has put it up for sale. I have requested him to provide more information on it. Will share it with you when I receive it.
Cheers.

To be strict, such a device can’t be a true corrector. True corrector is not a kind of a cheep Barlow lens with a build in some negative (to SCT) spherical aberration - too many factors out of control. As soon as I will back home after Covid 19, I will post images in CaK with a true ccorrector.

Valery

This is a lovely set of images Alfred. I'm glad Apollos sct corrector is working well, it certainly seems to me that seeing is your limiting factor here. The last image is a stunner, the penumbral fibrils are starting to resolve nicely. Thank you and keep the images coming!

Thanks Brian. I usually do very light processing. For a change, I have tried sharpening and increasing the contrast more. Please give me your feedback on which one you prefer, this one or the one posted previously. Thanks.

Looking very impressive, Alfred. I can't wait to see what you can do under more ideal conditions. I'm also looking forward to what Valery can offer.
For me the seeing conditions are almost always the limiting factor.

Re: Testing a Calcium corrector on a C11 and AR 2794 in CAK (New image added 24Dec)
Thanks Alexandra and Stuart.
So far the Chroma filters have produced ok results with the Televue x2.5 powermate. The first 2 sets of tests (on 22 and 23 Dec, both in poor/average seeing) with the calcium corrector (which replaced the TM x2.5 PM) look promising.
I will be doing some more tests using the corrector and Chroma filters. Then, later on, I hope to test the corrector in the following configuration:
Basically the 1nm Chroma filter will be in front of the corrector and the 1 angstrom Chroma filter will be in a skybender. It will be followed by the stacked Alluxa filters (giving this Alluxa stack a half an angstrom fwhm bandwidth), each with a 75% transmission. It would be interesting to see the images coming from this configuration.

Hi Alfred...
My first impression was that I preferred the first version, but it is rather dark and after downloading both and adjusting the brightness I think the second is a but better. Just my opinion
