Midday Session 09-04-2021

Post by Martin_S »

Today I managed to get my first decent Solar Imaging session in over a week due to the big wet. I set up a bit later than normal.
The viewing was soft , but I managed to get some half decent images.

Hi Martin,

Very good images. Does not the colouring supress a lot of fine details ? That is a reason why I stopped colouring my images. IMHO

Lovely captures Martin, I only managed CaK today as I'd got other commitments so had an hour this morning. Four lovely proms were evident in CaK wavelength. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you all for your comments I really appreciate them. Rainer you have raised an interesting point regarding colourised images. It would be interesting to know the general consensus on mono vs colour. I'm not the best judge of contrast or resolution, working as a welder for 45 years has taken it's toll on my eyesight.

Hi Martin,

I see you just put up a comparison but now I have to say in colour you have more detail and now comes another variable into the game and that is the image processing.

I guess you just took the colour out of your grey image.

I hope you do not mind but I tweaked the hisogram of your B&W image. I know that at the end of the day it is a question of taste. Just trying to show how a bit of stretching of the histogram can help bring out some details ?

Please tell how you see now the B&W portion. A big difference we all have is our monitor adjustment and that makes that we all see the images different.

Some people like Rainer and Eric excel without coloring their images at all. I think on average monochrome probably does give the best detail/resolution especially if it's there to show. It takes practice to colorize images well where is has little effect on detail. I am certainly not there yet. And then there is the artistic and aesthetic appeal coloring has. It's just pretty. And for newbies like me it can help a picture which looks only so-so in monochrome. False color schemes or bright colors can also be used to bring out detail. Whether monochrome or colorized, I guess it's just what works for the individual.

Now I ALWAYS like CaK better colorized!!

Anyway. That's my two-cents worth.

James

P.S. Your pictures look great, Martin!
