Harvest Moon 1st October 2020
Hi all,
Images of the Harvest Moon in colour and monochrome using a Nikon D5500 operating in video mode, Technosky 125mm f7.8, Powemate 2.5x and 50mm extension tube. Multiple video files (12 pane mosaic) were converted to SER files using PIPP, stacked using AS!3 and combined using MS-ICE into a single weak colour image. The RGB component channels were then separated out and processed in ImPPG to sharpen each one individually before being recombined into a single, sharpened, colour image. I used PixInsight for colour separation, recombination and enhancement.
Here are the results.

The Nikon doesn't really produce high quality images, but it's the only colour camera I have at the moment. I was just so glad the sky remained clear, for a while at least, during the session.
Thanks for looking.
Stu.

Hi Stuart,
You were very lucky to even have seen the Moon and especially to get such a fine image.
The colouring and the mono version is fab.
Thanks for sharing

Excellent images.
Though the first appears to have a rust problem.
Nothing a drop of WD40 won't cure.

Re: Harvest Moon 1st October 2020
Hi Alexandra,
I’ve been waiting some time to capture a full Moon image in colour, so I was really pleased when the Harvest Moon showed itself from behind some hazy clouds for 30 minutes or so.
Regarding the rust... I did try to retain a more balanced colour pallet, but I ended up with a blue edge at the top and a green edge along the bottom of the image. I think there are some improvements to be made to the optics, maybe. I’m going to try reprocessing to see what improvements can be made on the processing side.

Re: Harvest Moon 1st October 2020
Here's a further colour enhanced version. This time I just worked with the image 'out of camera' (after stacking and creating the mosaic), increasing the colour saturation, deconvoluting and sharpening in PixInsight. A bit of a blue tinge around the top edge

A great full moon shot Stu, and the enhanced colour versions add a new dimension to a target we usually consider cold and grey !!!
