Hi all...
The weather forecast is not promising for the closest approach on Monday, but it was clear tonight and I was able to get a shot of the giant planets through several scopes tonight using the Canon 60D.
The first is the crescent moon through the Stellarvue 110 with the planets set in for scale:
The next is through the C9.25 Edge, with a short exposure to keep from over exposing Jupiter too much, and the second has the image stretched to show the Jovian moons more clearly. Titan was also visible, though I'm not seeing it clearly in the pics:
It was quite the sight to see these two giant planets so close together.

Re: Jupiter and Saturn - December 18th
Hi Brian,
Excellent. Soon we will see Bethlehem's Star
According to my Planetarium program they will closest about 6' arc minutes more or less. Both being approximately the same size around 30" arc seconds this means there is still a 12x planet diameter separation between them.
Interesting

Re: Jupiter and Saturn - December 18th
Thanks Rainer!!!
if it is clear and the planets are that close we can get them on a single chip and do some stacking/sharpening too I'm sure we will see some great images form someone who has clear skies.
As for the reference to this being a "Bethlehem Star" in many media, I was always under the impression that the historic alignment that most fit the biblical account was a very close conjunction between Venus and Jupiter, which has been well documented.
Still, the fact this very rare alignment is occurring so close to Christmas its easy to refer to it this way. An awesome sight no matter what !!!
