Hi All,
I recently received an old grasshopper color camera from eBay and thought that a little testing was in order. The first subject was the Moon. Clear nights on the 29th and 30th provided an opportunity. This was more of a trial run than a test just to see what it could do. Most of my previous moon images have been greyscale and I realize these images need work. Too brown for my taste.
I let the software adjust the white balance while I played with the saturation. Shot at prime focus through a small Questar telescope, here are the first images with the PGR GX-FW- 28S5C.
The first image showing Tycho’s ray structure was with normal color saturation and resulted in a brownish surface. The next image got a saturation boost and more colors emerged. The last image, taken the next night, had the colors enhanced as well. I was surprised that the pole regions lacked color at this phase.
More images to come when the skies clear.
Phil

Very well captured and processed Phil.
One reason why the lack of colour maybe due to less Sun-light on the Moon in any given area, as cameras and even the Mk1 Eyeball - need light to define colours, albeit your images do show the colours very well.
Thanks for sharing
Terry

Thanks for the comments. In retrospect, I feel that I may have been somewhat stingy in doling out the color. I believe I've fixed it now.

Nice images, Phil.
I keep thinking about maybe getting a colour astro camera sometime. My DSLR in video mode does a reasonable job, but not quite good enough.
