You may have read on spaceweather about Einsteins famous eclipse photo has been restored:

https://spaceweather.com/archive.php?vi ... &year=2021

The software used in part for this is called NAFE (Noise Adaptive Fuzzy Equalisation), it is used to process AIA data, handily spaceweather link to a paper about it here:

https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1 ... js478134s5

And at the bottom of the paper to the website where you can download it:

http://www.zam.fme.vutbr.cz/~druck/Nafe/Index.htm

I downloaded and installed it and had a play, it's interesting, it certainly could be a useful tool in our solar image processing. I tried an image I took on 21st March, with quite poor quality raw data and was quite surprised:

Regular post processing:

It certainly adds a bit more texture to the image... I think it is something I will explore a bit more. Be interested to see other peoples findings...

That is very interesting Mark, the processed image has the feel that eboz (can't remember his name) from Australia used to give his images. A furry look for sure. Something to play with over the Easter weekend I think :)

Ted Dobosz is who you're thinking of. It also reminds me of Gabriel Corbans work too, he would never elaborate how he does his post processing...

Definitely something to play with I agree.

Looks interesting, thanks.

Just downloaded it; going to play with it when I have some time.

Looks like a great way to spend the next wet afternoon.

Used in small doses I think it can work quite well with Ha data.

Hoping this weekends sunny skies play out so I can get some more shots to try with it.

There is clearer definition in the mid ranges. The prom stands out and it is overall brighter without blasting high range.
