August 4 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 15:24 until 16:15 UTC. Intermittent. The skies are mostly cloudy. Seeing is just below average. The temperature is 70F ( 21.1C ). Breezy.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
I can see two obvious plages and two disturbances on the Ha disc today. AR12850 in the SW is easy to see. I can see a filament at the limb SW of it. There is also another filament well to it's SE near the limb. Another bright plage is seen in the SE not far off the limb. Between these two southern plages I can see two disturbed areas without too much difficulty. The NW shows a large disturbance with a small but dark filament within. The GONG CT image shows a small disturbance NW of AR12850. I did not notice it.

A bright prominence is seen on the NW limb. I can also see two prominence areas in the SE.

The mottles are seen across the disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I notice only three areas in white light. AR12850 in the SW shows 4 spots amid faculae. The SDO HMI continuum image shows a 5th pore. I see a scattered patch of faculae near the NW limb and the SE shows a bright facula with a single embedded pore.

The granulation is visible, but soft.

The music for today's session is the Hotel Luna album by Suzanne Ciani.

Carpe Diem!

James

Thanks James,

Good description, it's a pity that the activity slowed down a bit. I was also lucky with visibility today.

Your weather sounds like ours yesterday James, before it rained! Looks like more rain for the next couple of days too... Thanks for the report and hope activity picks up soon.
