AR3007, AR3010, AR3011, AR3012 and a Prominence taken yesterday 2022.05.14

Post by MichaelTeoh »

After more than 2 weeks of clouds, missing out on some nice active regions and solar flares, finally a relatively clear morning to catch up on the busy Sun. The weather was bad at first when I was in the class, but the forecast gave me some hope, so I decided to stay and wait, and it cleared up eventually. Transparency was ok, but the seeing was not so good. Despite the poor result, I really can't ask for more given the recent bad weather. It is cloudy again today.

Nice! I love the 540nm continuum images! That big refractor does well on granulation.

I would certainly love to have one and the observatory to house it or at least have regular access to one. You are a lucky man!! :bow

Thanks Montana and Franco.

Cloudy yesterday, and rained today. Hopefully can have another go at AR3007 before it turns away.

By the way, I’m quite confused about AR3012. I’m not sure which part of the group of sunspots is actually AR3012. According to SpaceWeather, it only appeared on May 14. Any idea?

Michael, seen in Ha its a small plage just NW of AR13007. It’s mentioned in my session reports.

I'm not sure Michael, it seemed to be to the north of AR13007 and the spots have disappeared and not showing today.

There are two areas here, another area of white/black to the north of AR13007 white/black poles. So two groups of north/south poles. This is the other poles N/S of AR13012

Here is a SDO timelapse on the AR3007/AR3012 groups from May 13 to May 15.

https://youtu.be/FpQzNv0b2CA

I can't seem to notice any new spot north or northwest of AR3007.

I never saw a spot or pore associated with AR13012. Just a small plage. I am not saying one wasn't there though, just that I never observed one.

Observing your video I do see two spots that disappear that may be associated with AR13012. Early on AR13012 wasn't listed separately and I may have them recorded as part of AR13007. I'll have to look.

JP

P.S. Looking back to my observations on the 13th I did see a small spot NW of the main group. So I did catch a spot in AR13012! :-)
