ISS transit with Lunt 60

Post by Marcello »

I had the chance of a transit of the ISS on front of the Sun disc just few km from home, and no clouds!

It's the first time I do this, and it was big fun :)

The prediction data in Calsky are very precise, so honestly this job is not so difficult if you can plan it and get ready.

I used a Lunt 60, avoiding the double stack 50 to get the maximum diameter. I kept the exposure at minimum available, 0,1 ms.

I'm surprised by the good resolution for just 60mm, at least in the best frames.

The image here is just the best frame with the other ISS added and one 1.6 pixel unsharp mask routine

Thanks all for the kind comments! I'm so pleased for the SPOD!

Calsky data have been so precise: the ISS passed exactly at the center as predicted at the exact time

Here is the resulting ISS image, stacking from the best 6 frames, sharpened a little and inverted. I had a little trouble for stacking, at the end I did it with the old and good Registax 5

:hamster: :hamster: :hamster: Amazing catch :bow :bow :bow well done and well deserved SPOD too :hamster:

I have only ever managed this once, 3 other attempts were clouded out and the last 2 years I haven't spotted any but then I just don't check Calsky enough. Does anyone know how to get an e-mail alert? I have looked for this many times and never found it on the site.

Thanks Alexandra and Phil!

Yes Alexandra, they do e-mail alert.
Do you have already an account? Then click on your username that usually appears at the top right of the main page and you are directed to the page "Personalize your CalSky".
Almost at the end you find the section "E-mail and Alert Manager", and from there you can set up several alert, including solar and moon ISS transit

I hope you have chance to try!

I have taken several times the space station, but never in front the sun.
Compliments.

:hamster: :hamster: :hamster: yippee! thank you for that info, I have had an account for years with Calsky and have never ever found the account details set up page, I never realised it was hidden by clicking on my name. Finally I have changed the password from the automatic one as well :hamster:
