invitation to a Charlie Bates Solar Outreach Club collaboration

Post by stets »

What if we, through outreach, were to collect the largest group of images of the May 20th, 2012 annular eclipse and the June 5th, Transit of Venus?

Why not a gallery, an ebook, and an ibook? (Let anyone participate, download the ebook for free, make an an ibook if someone wants a hard copy.)

How?

Since 2004 Transit of Venus much has changed. Cell-phone cameras are everywhere. Grab a cell-phone and shoot through a pair of Charlie Bates solar glasses. No access to solar glasses? #14 welders glass, available at hardware stores work well as a solar filter. Also, a pinhole projection will produce an image that can be photographed and shared; the Chinese have used pinhole-projection (and the camera obscura) since the fifth century BC.

Attached: a picture of my son in 1994 looking at a partial eclipse through solar glasses, and a collaboration by a group of solar observers

.

What if images were taken with only a small percent of the 250,000 Charlie Bates solar glasses in circulation? !!!
