Sundays Good Seeing - 22nd May

Post by marktownley »

Got up early on sunday morning, the eastern sky was thick with cloud, but the back edge of a weather front was passing through and the western sky was clear blue, so new it wouldn't be long before I could image. I (foolishly) looked at the jet stream charts and wished I didn't as it showed a raging jet overhead. Deciding to chance the 100mm with some CaK images I was surprised to see the clarity of image I was getting. Using a 2x barlow and the PGR CH3 (IMX265) was happy with the result.

I even had 7 good frames in a row, so decided to throw them together in an animation, not quite the drama of Alexandras, but nice to get good views for a change!

Switching to the 203mm Airlylab HaT the view was etched on my laptop screen, and despite the SSM giving me readings of 4-8" seeing it is quite clear this isn't the whole picture when it comes to getting a good image. This was taken at 5.6m focal length with the PGR Blackfly GigE IMX249 camera.

I have a few other images of filaments etc on the disk, and when get a bit of time animations of a bit of flaring in the active region.

Hope you like these!

Mark

Wonderful!! your CaK has a lot more contrast than mine, the spicule layer in the supergranulation seem to swirl in a circular motion which is fascinating. Mine is a bit too fuzzy to see clearly but yours have a definite circular motion around each supergranulation cell. CaK is turning out be quite an entertainer!

The Halpha is amazing too :bow :bow :bow I was finding my SSM was giving me readings of 0.8-1.2 and then between 1-2 when I was imaging the CaK.

Good ones Mark. All the toys and monitors are all good but sometimes you just have to get out and have a go regardless of conditions.

Fantastic images Mark. The CaK animation is my favourite. I use lower gamma values for my Ha surface shots.
