I am using a 6mp PGR Grasshopper3 and it often will overheat and shut down. I live in norther California and the temperatures can get into the high 90s. Of course this camera was probably not designed to work in the direct sunlight during the California summer heat. I contacted Point Grey, but they told me I was on my own with this. Has anyone else encountered this? What solutions can you offer?

Re: Camera overheating
Hmmm, not sure what to suggest, maybe make a sun shield for it to keep the direct sunlight off it?

Re: Camera overheating
Hi Randall
I think on very hot days wrapping it in aluminum foil might do more harm than good since the internally generated heat will be reflected back into the camera by the inner face of the foil and cause heat build up that way. Maybe a very cheap shield could be made that fits over the snout to keep the camera in shadow while allowing air to circulate around the camera.

Re: Camera overheating
You may try installing a passive heat dissipator. I've got one on my camera.

Re: Camera overheating
Christian Viladrich, what does your passive heat dissipation look like?

Re: Camera overheating
I also suggest a sunshield (if in your setup the camera is not completely in telescope's shadow) and radiator(s), e.g. search for "RAM aluminium heatsink" (computer stores). If it's not enough, there are tiny (e.g. 40 mm) fans available too.
