Amazing prom eruption at lunchtime

Post by Montana »

Back to sunny Cheshire after a week in Cornwall where it rained non-stop every day and broke our all time worst holiday ever.
Sunny lunchtime and sunny sun (you can tell how happy I am to be at home) and the Sun let off a huge eruption. A first for me :hamster:

It was twice the height of the ruler!

and moving very quickly

and very faint and difficult

Hi Alexandra: great images ! We captured the same eruption this morning (your lunch time) but you did such a better job than I did....

I knew it was a good one when I saw it this morning.

Well done

Beautiful images, Alexandra. Nicely captured erupting prom. I was too late on the scopes today and totally missed this.

Sorry to hear about the soggy holiday...... USA next :)

Stunning job Alexandra, you finally bagged one of the lift off events, that is one of the goals achieved and thoroughly deserved!

Nice to see the solar ruler being used.

Very best wishes Andy

Wonderful work, Alexandra. Have you used the coronagraph or your usual setup ?

Congratulates, Alexandra!

Very nice eruption capture. Impressive coronal mass injection!

Thanks for sharing.

Tidy set of images there Alexandra! I had sun at the weekend but was on the boat. You better not bring that rain with you in august :D

Thanks guys :) sorry boys, we seem to be cursed with rain this year on holiday :(
Raf, these were taken with the Solarscope DSF-100, but after I could no longer see the prominence I swapped for a visual look with the Coronagraph. The view was really strange, I was asking the hubby if the view was real because there was a huge arc about half the size of the Sun with little bright points along it. I am kicking myself as I should have done a sketch but the hubby insisted I try to photograph it. That is such a fiddle and the Grasshopper does not work well with it and by the time I was fiddling clouds came in and never left. I should never try to image with the Coronagraph!! I then tried to see whether this arc was real by looking at SDO and SOHO but it was beyond the SDO images and within the blank bit on SOHO. The nice gap in the inner Corona which NASA has a blank spot! So I guess my sketch would have been quite unique, or it is a very big hair on the Coronagraph. The next time I get the Coronagraph out I shall see whether it is still there, if so, it is a big hair, if not, then maybe it was something quite unique - and I didn't sketch it!!!
