Nice shot
That's huge!
What explains a contiguous structure like this over such vast distances?
I guess what seems odd is that the scale of features that we normally see on the Sun's surface are much smaller than this and to some degree the scale of the surface features should reflect underlying structure as well. But something this large would seem to indicate a large source. Coalescing of smaller features does not seem a likely explanation. So what creates a feature of this size?

Just thinking out loud here, I guess. I'll have to go study up on how the Sun works

Nice image. I set up my 60mm Lunt DS and saw it too and was amased at the size. This filament has grown dramaticaly since my first light observation on 11-20-17. Seeing conditions were fairly good at first but the limb started boiling after about 45 min. That was about 10:30 CST. I set up on our driveway. Does that cause more heat waves and would it be better to set up on grass? Beautiful images Thomas.
