Super Moon

Post by Carbon60 »

Hi all,

A persistent haze plagued any real high resolution imagery. Here's a 12 pane mosaic of the super moon using the best images I could achieve under the conditions. Thankfully the skies remained reasonably clear for just long enough to complete a couple of rounds. Here's the best one of the two.

Thanks for looking.

That's nice a sharp Stu, is this with the new big telescope? we just had very thick haze all evening, no chance for me. I could sort of see the moon, a white blob :)

Many thanks, Eric. Much appreciated.

Alexandra, I know what you mean. We had lots of haze.... quite thin, but enough to take the edge off things. I spent a little time in the afternoon collimating the new scope (RC) ready for the evening session, hoping for good clear skies. In the end I had to make do with the haze and get what I could. It clouded over just in time for Blue Planet II, so a called it a night and watched David Attenborough whilst AS3 chugged away processing the images for the mozaic. The Moon later came out quite bright, but it was time for bed and everything was packed away. Maybe it will be clearer tonight??? I'm dying to experience the full potential from the beast. BTW, it was really quite out of collimation, hence the problems focusing with some of my previous images.

I'm glad to hear that the collimation was bad because that will easily sort out the bad focus, if it was bang on then that would have been more worrying. We had no clear sky last night at all, the haze was so thick it was just a white fuzz in the sky, it was a beautiful effect but if my eye couldn't see anything a telescope certainly couldn't. Thick cloud here today ;)

Many thanks Marios.

Alexandra, I was relieved to see that the collimation was out given the focusing difficulties I was having. I just need a proper clear night to give it a good go.

Pedro, thanks for letting me know it looks dark. Here's a lighter version:

Good results, I prefer the lighter second version. I've clocked the moon a few times lately, but, I have to admit i'm a fair weather solar observer and CBA to go out in the frost. Quite ironic as a in a couple of weeks you won't keep me inside when at Iceland. Hope you get to play with the big RC before too long.

Many thanks, everyone.

Good luck in Iceland, Mark. Hopefully Earth weather and spaceweather will be kind to you ;)

Let's hope for a good show.
