17 January

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

A clear day on Wednesday this week, and time to do a quick session over lunch. The weather has warmed up too...now -6C may still be cold to most but it is 20C warmer than the last day I was out

It was nice to see some activity at the eyepiece in the LS80T/B1200/LS75FHa double stack solar scope, with some filaments and once AR nicely placed on the disk. There were many small proms that show in the images, but they were not visible to the eye.

The images below are disk/limb monochrome composites, the first with positive disk and limb exposures, the second is inverted, and the third is a negative disk and positive limb:

As clouds rolled in I tried to grab some white light images of AR2696, but the only one that worked was at prime focus on the iStar 150mm, f8 scope through the Lunt solar wedge/Baader continuum filter:

A short session, but I will take what I can these days!

Questions and comments are always welcome,
Brian

A lovely set, Brian. I like all those small prominences, how you caught 2696 and the full disks !

Looks like you had a very nice session. I can't believe that these days we have to be happy about these microscopic sunspots .

I want my money back.

Franco, Alexandra, and Eric...

Thanks for your comments and feedback...always appreciated!!!

With options to use WL, HA, and CaK there is usually something to be seen even during the solar doldrums. I got my first Ha equipment 10 years ago I believe as we were in a relatively quiet time then as well.

Alexandra...I'll hold out for another 20C or so before going to short sleeves, but I need more than one cocktail to get into me before any Hawaiian shirts are worn  Right at the 0C mark today, and the sun came out after I left home at lunch
