Baader wedge to ST102????

Post by Merlin66 »

Just an observation....
I wanted to use the ST102 (500mm fl) with the Baader wedge to test a CaK filter set-up with full disk coverage.
Sounds straightforward.....

Hmmm. No, not really. The backfocus requirements of the Baader wedge fitted with the Baader twist lock and the ASI camera was toooooo much for the available focuser inward travel.
Bumma!
The only solution I can think of, is to remove the Baader Twist lock and replace it with a M48>T2 adaptor then a T2> 1.25 adaptor. This should give at least another 20mm to play with.
We shall see......
(Edit)
The filter threaded section of the Baader Wedge/ twist lock is actual a M50 thread.
I've managed to cobble up a SCT to T thread adaptor which should do the job. The space saving is only 12mm or so....would need a shorter T thread to 1.25"

One of these?

I would just drop the aperture back so that thermal loading is less and not use the wedge. 102/500 for CaK is hugely undersampled when imaging.

Mark,
Yeah, that would give an extra 15mm.....
Just need to find a source here in Oz.

I've ordered on of these:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Blac...ceBeautifyAB=0

and removed the "locking ring" for the 2" adaptor on the SW focuser - another 4mm saved....
