Reflected solar light from the 23rd of February 2018.

Post by eroel »

Hi:
Got to the rural observatory in the afternoon, still with Sol above the horizon but the sky was very cloudy, then suddenly saw Selene shine through a cloud hole, so I aimed the 10" f/20 TEC Maksutov and tried to cope with the clouds passing in front, so I had to keep on moving sliders and pausing the SER recording so to get a more or less same brightness.
I had not used the Mak for a long time, but was impressed on how well it performs, here is the result using the SKYnyx 2-2 camera with a 0.5X reducer at its nose.
Thanks for looking the reflected Sol light on Selene.
Have a nice weekend, here it is cloudy again so lets see what happens later.
Eric.
P.S. Excuse me, could not load the image from my observatory, internet problems.

Nice sharp pics Eric...the Mak should give some superb solar images once you get it set up.

Alexandra:
Forgot to explain that In the Greek and Roman mythology, the moon was a goddess, the Greeks named it Selene and the Romans named it Luna.
Selene traveled in her chariot pulled by horses during its voyage through the sky.
Best regards,
Eric.

Pedro:
Yes, if you open the image in another window, there are places where the central rille shows.
The funny part is that it was still daytime when I imaged it, did not compose the shot because i just aimed it with the finder, so to see if the instrument was not to far off collimation, it had been parked in its mount with construction workers inside the observatory, so you can imagine that I was afraid that it was bumped several times. Hope that next weekend I can see some stars and check all the instruments using the classical Star test, as also with a Ronchi grating, and also the polar alignment on my 3 mounts.
Fuerte abrazo,
Eric.
