halpha sun on March 9th

Post by stef41 »

good morning, everyone,

the clouds came back late at night on the Albion plateau. I still managed to catch the sun in a very tiny lightening (before everything is gray!) (single 17s video! viva the 60img/s of the 178mm... and the SSD!)...)... as much to say that about the setting, there is only the strict minimum! I used an old flat to reduce the frame of the sensor, for the blow it added the interference fringes which were in the flat...

otherwise, fs60 with sm40 double stack, glasspath x1.25, BF10 and zwo178mm at 12h53 UT, reduced to 75%!

Shame about the rings. I don't think a flat is a good idea with a full disk?😞 lots of detail in the image.

At least you're seeing the Sun, Stephanie. Not a lot of it here to speak of.

Gamma at 50+ sounds better to me. I have seen patterns like that using other cameras at extreme settings.
Keep trying things☺

Hi Stephane,

Sometimes flats can help with getting rid of NR. Now I use an interference eliminator to get rid of the NR. It is more reliable.

Hi,
NR = Newton Rings, I guess?
I have a problem with NR because of the glasspath. But it's gonna work out with a good tilt ring adjustment.
On the other hand, the 178mm pattern is more complicated to solve ( whatever the value of gamma )... except with a flat.

Here, the same picture without flat (with gamma=1 and gain=134):

Super image, I hope you have some luck getting rid of the rings :bow :hamster: have you tried just letting the full disc drift across the image during capture, then Autostakkert will remove them.
