Weekend Sunlight - Many Angles

Post by MapleRidge »

Hello everyone...

A busy weekend here with clear skies returning and multiple targets for imaging.

The solar session with the Peterborough Astronomical Association wrapped up around noon on Saturday, with 11 members visiting and getting a fix on solar energy through WL and Ha filters. The WL views were underwhelming, but with the Ha scopes we did have a few proms and filaments as well as AR2702 which has been visible for several days.

I spend some time imaging after lunch on Saturday (March 17th) with the LS80T/B1200Ha solar scope. The first image below was taken in SS mode:
LS80T_Ha_134520-ASI.jpg
LS80T_Ha_134520-ASI.jpg (826.31 KiB) Viewed 1691 times
The scope was then set up in DS mode with the LS75 front mount etalon, and I made the composite image with seperate disk and limb exposures (limb inverted):

The early afternoon seeing was poor, but I wanted to try some higher resolution images by adding the 3x tele-extnder to the optical train and imaged some of the disk features. The first was AR2702:

The remaining images cover the filaments that were visible:

After finishing up at the sugar-bush after supper tonight I was fortunate to have the low clouds on the western horizon break up and allowed a view of the beautiful conjunction of the very young Moon, Venus, and Mercury. Sunlight reflected from multiple sources ;) These images were taken with the Canon 60D and telephoto lens (two different zoom levels):

The clear weather is to continue tomorrow so if all goes well I can image the conjunction again Monday night.

Questions and comments are always welcome.

Brian

Hi,

Great Sun images as well as the Moon Venus Mercury conjunction. I took the same at about 19:20 hours in Mexico City and the moon and mercury line is nearly horizontal.
