First Light ED80 / Lunt50 Frankenscope

Post by Macavity »

After previous experiments with a stopped-down ST120 / Lunt50
Frankenscope, decided to try the lighter & better(?) ED80 OTA. ;)

:!: N.B. As ever, only attempt to modify solar scopes as per the
*Modifications* forum and noting remarks on eyeball safety etc.

Setup can STILL be used (fairly easily) as native Lunt 50 (or WL)!

And here's the first image via the ED80; (+ Baader 90mm ERF)
2x Barlow; f/1200mm; into a 3.75 mu pixel Chameleon Cam:
Processed via ImPPG to give "inverted" disk + normal proms. :)

(Another Brit enjoying the (infrequent) Sun... while it lasts!)

That came out well! Try sharpening at a smaller radius with the full disk.

Thanks Franco and Mark. Indeed (Mark) I should "tighten up" on processing.
But I feel I am (finally!) happy enough with the hardware. I guess we have
a fair while until the next Solar Max! :| I Enjoy your BLOG, by the way...

In similar *ersatz* (lol) vein, I took a 1hr sequence of 1min ON : 4min OFF
videos for a Prom animation. (Must write a MACRO for that!). Amazed just
how much the seeing varied... So only raw AS!2 sharpening OP for now:

Still, get the impression of an interesting "twister thing" going on here?!

As ever, thanks (notably) for the *scope modding* ideas of SC forumites! :)
