Arching Prom Group in High Res | 04-02-2018

Post by MalVeauX »

Hey all,

I had fog all morning, so I missed out on the only time the seeing is decent for my area. Then it clouded up real bad. So mid-afternoon, I had some sucker holes between cloud groups, and I wanted to see how the sunspot and prominences were doing today. There are some nice prominences, but only one group in particular was really interesting with a big arch. Seeing was awful and more clouds coming in, so I grabbed data quickly. I couldn't manage anything on the sunspot with the awful seeing, it was so bad I couldn't even focus, so I stopped at that point. I had a small window with some slightly ok seeing and managed to get some data on the major prominence group that has the arch, so that's all I was able to get today with this weather.

Setup:

120mm F8.3 Refractor (Celestron Omni XLT 120)
Quark Chromosphere
2" 80mm x 2 extensions (straight through)
2" Baader UV/IR Cut Filter
ASI174MM

An interesting arching prom group this afternoon:

That's a brilliant shot Marty. That 120mm is pulling great detail.
