H-alpha with 250 mm RCT

Post by Carbon60 »

A little sunshine this morning allowed me to trial my 250 mm RCT Frankenscope mod with a Lunt 35 Ha telescope at the rear and an internal collimating lens feeding the Lunt Etalon. The sky was clear and blue, but the seeing was not great for a scope of this aperture, so I wasn't expecting things to be optimal. My main interest this morning, however, was to check that everything worked together, as I've made a few changes since I last tried this combo. Things looked awful at first, but after a few tweaks to achieve proper alignment between the RCT and the Lunt I finally managed to obtain an image worth capturing.

Again, the seeing was pretty bad and really quite shocking when I reviewed the SER file. Still, AS3 did its magic as did Imppg to at least pull something from the mess. Overall I think is looks very promising. I just need to be ready for when the conditions are more favourable.

Very promising indeed, Stu! Looking forward to when you get better conditions.

Interesting result, it seems the scope is capable of really high resolution. Where is the ERF located ? Is it a front one ?

Hi Stuart...

The image looks good under the conditions you describe. These large scopes need above average conditions by the looks of it. A year on and I'm still not overly happy with my 25cm SCT project but I hope to get more time to work on it this spring.

Keep us posted on your efforts and results.

Brian

Yes, promising, Stu. I know how you feel after having gone out twice this year with the 203mm HaT and having not much to show for it due to bad seeing.

I look forward to seeing your first results with good conditions...(and mine too)

Nice shot Stu. I've not been able to get my HaT out so far this year because of the weather.

Many thanks, Guys.

I guess we're pushing the limits with these scopes, hoping for and requiring great conditions for optimal performance; conditions that, regrettably, are all to infrequent. :(

Raf, the scope employs a full size front mounted ERF from Valery.

It looks promising. The constrast appears good given the conditions.

Hello,
good results, given the current bad weather.
I look forward to the continuation with a beautiful sky

Wow! I'd be really happy with an image like that. Very smooth and fine detail :bow

I am hoping to do some WL with the C11 this weekend if the Sun decides to shine early in the morning :) (yes a miracle needed there).
