April 29th Session

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi all...

A light rain this afternoon has provided an early evening home, and a chance to catch up on image backlogs.

These were taken on the morning of April 29th with above average seeing...I was hoping for a good session. The fist images were full disk Ha taken through the LS80T/B1200Ha solar scope double stacked with a LS75FHa. AR2706 was approaching the western limb but looked great after the frequent blank sessions through the winter:

LS80T_LS75_103617-ASI.jpg (237.5 KiB) Viewed 2181 times
The next 2 images are full disk WL and CaK, taken through the iStar 150mm, F8 OTA through a Lunt solar wedge/Baader Continuum filter for the WL and a modified WL wedge/B1800CaK/BaaderCaK filter:

I grabbed several video clips through both the modded CR150/DSII and the iStar/Daystar Quantum filters, with the better images selected below. The first was through the modded scope which was set up at f24 for this region which was near the eastern limb:

The next two are from the iStar scope with the 0.45A Quantum:

This covers the session...I'm sure I had another Sunday with clear skies but haven't found the files. Maybe still on the computer in the dome...I'll have to look in the morning. It is supposed to be clear.

Questions and comments are always welcome.

Brian

Looks good Brian .Winter if you can call it that has arrived here(night temps to under 14C).Will stop gathering Honey now till August and start the annual plant clean and maintenance. My cousin in;and has sown no crops as it is to dry and is feeding sheep and cattle. At least the wool price is up the cattle price has dropped significantly.Honey was $4-$4.60 Aus/kg.
Hope you get some good Sunny weather in the next few months. I will hopefully get a few holidays in.
Cheers Derek.

Thanks Derek...

Hope the weather cooperates for your cousin and lets him get some crop in and the pastures green up and can cut back having to feed the livestock. It is actually trending to be on the dry side here...winter and spring was all mixed...warm then cold, snow, then bare ground. Our start to the season was a week or 10 days late getting started, but it has been going full tilt the past 3 weeks.

We have finished planting corn, oats, and soybeans at home and my brother plans to start putting up haylage the first of the week, and many of my customers are either finished or getting close as well.

Has the price of honey changed significantly? I believe that you said it was at record prices a few years ago. Hoping you get some time to relax during the slower honey season.

Brian it’s taken a 20% cut in wholesale price thanks to imports. There was a double stack 152 Lunt here and went for $8K Aus.I was tempted but as I hardly use my 150 mod due to seeing I got another work vehicle instead .My son gets his licence soon .
Cheers

Nice shots.
Personally, I like the active spots and high resolutions.
So my preference are the first and last images.

Thanks Alex...

Glad you liked the images, and the active Ha's are always the great.

Impressive images, I like very much the H-Alpha disc. What do you mean with "modified WL wedge/B1800CaK/BaaderCaK filter" ?

Thanks for all the posts on the images...sorry that I've had sop little time to follow-up. I always appreciate the feedback.

Krakatoa...with regards to the CaK wedge it is based on the CaK unit that Lunt sells to use with the LS150. Their standard CaK filters are designed to work up to 100mm aperture but they have a solar wedge for the 152 that allows the CaK filter to be used on the full aperture. The stock unit has a B1200CaK filter installed in the housing before the eyepiece holder.

I already had a B1800CaK filter which works better for the longer f ration (f8) of my 150mm scope and had been stopping the scope down close to 100mm to prevent any possible damage to the filter. Brian Stephens at Lunt said that we could disassemble my B1800 and install it in a CaK wedge and permit me to use it at full aperture. I met Brian at NEAF a few years ago and he assembled the system in 20 mins or so. I also installed a Baader CaK 1.25" filter ahead of the camera...I believe the image quality is a bit better this way.

Hopefully this brief description helps explain the setup.

Brian
