for the ones that know a lot more than I do ...
Did some capturing today under a bright blue sky, seeing could be better, with the Skywatcher 100 f/8.3 and the "bad" Quark to do some tests again. Made some flats to get rid of the uneven images and other defaults in the filter.
When looking at the following image I suspected the Quark again of having some "clouded" regions. (not 100% sharp image)
But then I processed an earlier image (taken app. 35 minutes earler) from the same region (There is a little offset, and this one is also a bit sharper)
No "clouded" areas on this one ...
To show the difference I tried to align both in an animated gif
Now the question: Is this the Quark changing band while heating. The heater was at the same position in both, but the Sun had been warming the Quark as well for 30 minutes through the 35nm H-Alfa filter (used as ERF in from of extension tube and diagonal), or is this really solar material getting out of that region. (fyi no clouds were covering the sky)

It is only when you view the gif that it really shows the difference. I have no idea but it seems that it is not quite on band in the first shot. I found with my Quark that it was next to impossible to focus when it was even slightly off band as the contrast was so low. Then, Autostakkert always did a very poor job of stacking as the contrast was so incredibly low. My videos were always infinitely better than the stacked output and it should be the other way round. I am wondering if ASK3 is not stacking certain regions very well because of very poor contrast?

Yes sometimes AS!3 has problems stacking, but in this case seems to be in the capture. Have a look at the following image. This is a sceenshot of SER player showing 1 image from each video. Using the tools menu i altered gamma to get some more contrast. You can see the Quark is not really even and there are some spots. But notice the "cloudy" field on the bottom one. Quark and camera position did not change. (I had been making flats in between, so focus changed, and scope was not pointing at same exact position). The "cloudy" field is at a sensor position which is "clean" in the top one.

Wel it might very well be. (the contamination in not on the outside, and if you put some gentle pressure on the red filtter in the back it seems to change, at least I think)

my own Quark doesn't show any foggy zone, even when off band, so the behavior of your unit could be due to "something" trapped inside (I can't say exactly what and where) or to some inhomogeneities of the etalon. In the clear areas of your images your Quark doesn't seem to be badly off band.
Have you noticed if the foggy areas always appear in the same locations ?

Looks like they are, but not always present. No time for further testing in the coming weeks, so have to "freeze" this subject for at least a month.Have you noticed if the foggy areas always appear in the same locations ?

Paul I used to have similar issues with an old Daystar Solaredi 60mm scope .I used to rotate the etalon itself to try and rectify the problem.

on my list of todos (when back from hospital) is to make a series of flats with 10 to 15 minute time-intervals, and do this in different Quark rotations.
